Today’s tournament will use the Peoria scoring system as follows:
After the round, the golf Pro will make a blind draw to choose three “handicap holes.” This drawing will not be held until all groups have teed off.
The handicap holes will be 1 par 3s, 1 par4s, and 1 par 5s. (The Peoria system uses 2 of each hole for 18 holes, so the hole selection was modified to better suit our needs for we only play 9 holes.)
The total number of strokes on these holes will be computed. That number will be multiplied by 3. The course par 35 will be subtracted from this number and the result will be multiplied by 80% to obtain each golfer’s Peoria Handicap.
Your final posted net score will be your gross score minus your Peoria Handicap.
As an example suppose you have a gross score of 50 and your total strokes on the 3 handicap holes is 18. Your handicap is then 80% of 19 (3 times 18 minus 35) or 15.2. So, your tournament net score is 15.2.
In determining prizes, ties will be “carded off” meaning the golfer who did the best of the hardest hole will be the winner.
The good news is that we have a computer program to do all the above calculations for you.
You only have to enjoy your golf round and write down your score as you normally would.
After your round, give your group’s signed card to the organizing committee so they can enter the information into the computer.
After the “handicap holes” have been selected, the computer will determine the winner(s) instantaneously.
In addition to the standard rules of golf and Par Hopers course rules, this competition will also have the following rules so that play does not get unnecessarily slow.
The maximum score on any hole is twice par. If you have played (1) 6 strokes on a par 3, or (2) 8 strokes on a par 4, or (3) 10 strokes on a par 5, please pick up your ball and score twice par on that hole. If you do not do it, the computer will do it for you.
Enjoy your golf. No matter how bad it is, you could be a winner under the Peoria scoring system.
